Rum bars I want to try in Singapore

A to-try list, not a review: six Singapore bars with a reputation for serious rum. I haven't been to any of them — yet.

Full disclosure: I’ve never been to any of these. This is a wish list, built from a 2024 roundup on the drinks site 88 Bamboo. When I make it to one, I’ll say what I thought.

That roundup is a couple of years old, and bars here change fast. Check that a place is still open, and when, before you go.

The list

  • Origin Bar: a cocktail bar in the Shangri-La, on the edge of the Orchard Road area, with a deeper rum shelf than you’d expect from a hotel bar. (Shangri-La Singapore, Tower Wing lobby, 22 Orange Grove Road)
  • Sugarhall: a rum-focused cocktail bar in the CBD that also serves food late into the night. (Level 2, 19 Cecil Street)
  • The Bar at 15 Stamford: a smart bar in the Capitol Kempinski with one of the city’s biggest rum ranges, and it hosts tasting sessions. (Capitol Kempinski Hotel, 15 Stamford Road)
  • La Maison du Whisky: despite the name, a major rum importer. You can drink a glass at the bar or buy a bottle to take home. (80 Mohamed Sultan Road, #01-10, Robertson Walk)
  • The Auld Alliance: a library-like spirits bar known for rare and vintage rums, some of which it bottles itself. Strong on whisky too. (Rendezvous Hotel, 9 Bras Basah Road, #02-02A)
  • Tamba: a West African restaurant whose bar pours rums and other spirits from Africa. Sister to Kafe Utu. (101 Duxton Road)
